SCHOOLS WEEK
Catholic
Schools week is the last week in January. We will have many
activities going on to show our Catholic identity.
School
resumes on January 6, 2009.
There is no
school on January 19th.

STORE UNIT
We will begin a Store Unit. We will
explore different kinds of store including a hardware store, a pet shop, a
grocery/bakery, a toy store, book store and a music store. We will talk about
what people in the store do.
We will discuss their jobs such as cashiers and sales people. We will
talk about buying and selling. This will be done through stories, songs, and activities. Take time as
a family to discuss some stores you visit.
  
TRY THESE:
Ask your
child to explain what authors and illustrators of a story do.
Ask your
child what the beginning letters are for words and in signs you may see as
you drive down the road.
Practice
breaking words into syllables. Start with their names. Clap the
syllables.
Have your
child identify rhymes when you read them a story.
Practice
sorting and counting objects.
Have your
child "write" a pretend grocery list, while you write a real one.
Tell them
how you pay for things at the register.
