I
am thrilled to begin my third year as your child’s art
teacher. The ceramics kiln will be up and running this
year! We will also host another Kid’s Art Fair this
spring. We will incorporate elements of other fine arts
such as dance, drama, storytelling and music with our
traditional visual art curriculum.
Curriculum
Students will learn the elements and principles of
design while engaged in weekly studio activities. We
will utilize a myriad of media in observational drawing,
sculpture, collage assemblage, painting, ceramics and
craft. Motivation for lessons will come from, but are
not limited to Catholicism, exploration of
self-identity, and storytelling. Each lesson will be
infused with the work of artists, including masters as
well as modern artists working in our own community.
Your student will learn how to “see” as an artist and
develop a new language to speak about art.
The
sketchbook,
a place to…
-Cut & paste things that visually or intellectually
intrigue
-Write new art vocabulary words
-Self-assess growth
Grading
Yes, it is possible to objectively grade art!
I will attach a rubric to major projects your child
completes which clearly outlines the learning objectives
for the project.

Core
Values
The art studio will support and follow the core values
set forth by St. Stephen’s School. Our class will foster
an environment of integrity and respect. We will promote
one another to be researchers instead of spectators.
Together we will deepen our roots in our Catholic
identity by applying Catholic beliefs, morals & values
to behavior in the studio.
